Giants tight end Evan Engram has cleared the NFL concussion protocol and is expected to start in Sunday’s season opener against the Jaguars according to the team’s official website.
Engram suffered the concussion in the team’s third preseason game but was never expected to miss Week 1. After a stellar rookie season in 2017 in which Engram cleared 700 yards receiving and scored six touchdowns, his numbers will likely take a hit with running back Saquon Barkley and a healthy Odell Beckham Jr. the main cogs in the Giants offense but his undeniable talent and Eli Manning’s penchant for throwing to tight ends will keep him in the mix. The Jags defense is a really tough one to face to start the season but are not especially dominant against tight ends.
