Giants Rookie QB Daniel Jones Not Close to Take Eli Manning’s Job

Giants Rookie quarterback Daniel Jones has been drawing tons of praise at Giants training camp but he is not close to taking the starting job away from veteran Eli Manning according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Jones has actually been better than expected after the Giants drew the ridicule of many draft pundits by taking the former Duke QB with the No.6-overall pick. But that does not mean that this is a genuine quarterback battle-at least not for 2019.

“Eli’s going to start and when it’s Daniel Jones’ turn, he will be ready,” Rapoport said. “It doesn’t even really seem to me, from people I’ve spoken with, that it’s particularly close as far as a quarterback battle.”

Of course, the Giants’ commitment to Eli may waiver if the team gets off to a poor start this fall and is out of playoff contention by November.

And neither QB has been exactly set up for success with the Odell Beckham-less receiving corps. With Manning’s contract expiring at the end of the season, the Giants will likely want to get a good glimpse of the future and odds are both Manning and Jones will make some starts in 2019.
