Giants-Panthers 1st Half Thoughts

Well, we all didn’t expect that. 21-13 in favor of the Panthers. I think everyone thought this would be a close game. And it is-score wise. But the Panthers are outplaying the Giants. Their run game is GREAT. Might even be better than Earth, Wind, and Fire. Stewart got injured in the second quarter, and didn’t return, but Williams is a future star. Scratch that. He is a star. Great vision, balance, and makes good use of cutback lanes. Great player. The Giants, for the most part, have contained the passing game; the 60 yard bomb to Muhammad should have been picked off. They can’t, however, stop Steve Smith. There has to be a safety over the top, or perhaps another corner on him.

As far as the Giants are concerned, the offense doesn’t look bad. But it doesn’t look great. Did not understand the 3rd and short call to go to Hedgecock. They need to use Manningham, or, if you’re not using him, go downfield more. These short passes only work for sometime, but there needs to be an over the top threat. Running game looks really good, especially Ward. Look for Bradshaw more in the second half. As we mentioned above, the ‘D’ is doing an okay job on the pass, but cannot stop the run. They can’t stop those underneath passes to the running backs. Couldn’t do it last week, either. They might have to employ more run blitzes, or, continue to stack the box, putting 8, even 9 on running downs. Make it your goal to stop Williams.

The Giants are still in it. Barely, but still in it. Giants need a big play. An interception, a fumble recovery, something like that to jump start the team. If they can stop the first possession, and get a quick touchdown, they are right back in it. They need to do that. We will see. Enjoy the second half.
