Eli Is Happy With His Current Targets:

From Mike Garafolo:

Before the draft, Eli Manning strongly suggested he wanted a No. 1 wide receiver — perhaps Braylon Edwards. During the draft, he got himself a few more targets, though they’re not No. 1s and they might not be able to contribute immediately. After the draft, Manning was extremely diplomatic when asked if he was surprised the Giants didn’t trade for Edwards, Anquan Boldin or any other veteran.

“I didn’t know what was going to happen. No, I’m not surprised,” Manning said Tuesday after participating in the Giants’ off-season workouts. “You never know what to expect on draft day. You hear a lot of rumors and you never know what’s true and what’s false. I just try to keep up and see who we drafted. When it comes to draft picks, it takes some time for these guys to learn. We have a good corps of guys and players on this team that can go out there and compete every day and play well for us.”

Asked if the he feels the team should still go get a veteran, Manning didn’t say yes or no, but instead turned the conversation back to the players currently on the roster.

“Looking at the receivers we have right now, I’m very confident with the guys and everybody we have that we can go out there and play at a high level,” Manning said. He later added: “You’ve got to trust your guys to get open and I trust our players. You know what their strengths are, you know what they do well. The more time we get to work with the guys we have here, the better they’ll get, the better our timing will get. We’ve got some young guys who have played well, but the more experience they get, they’ll all get better and we’ll see how good we can be.”

I personally think we do need to bring in a veteran, but not someone who’s going to demand Larry Fitzgerald’s salary (unless it IS Larry Fitzgerald, and that’s not going to happen). However if Tyree is 100% I trust that he can step up and be a veteran leader for this unit, and I’ll be comfortable going into the season with what we have at WR. We definitely will be coming in with 6 on roster this year, not 5 like a lot of people are saying. Nicks, Barden, Tyree, Maningham, Smith, and Hixon…
Remember, this year we won’t have to carry 2 K’s…
