Nicks Rookie Of The Month:

From NYDailynews:

Hakeem Nicks was named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Month for October.

And if he keeps this up, he’s going to end up as the greatest Giants rookie receiver ever.

Nicks, the Giants’ first-round pick, caught 14 passes for 297 yards and four touchdowns this month. He’s now got 16 catches for 315 yards (that’s a team-high 19.7 yards per catch, by the way) on the season.

That makes him the most productive rookie receiver for the Giants since 1984.

“I’m very excited about (the award),” Nicks said. “Just don’t want to let it get to the head. Just keep on doing what I’m doing.”

If he keeps doing that, Nicks has a shot to surpass the 1984 dynamic duo of Bobby Johnson and Lionel Manuel. Jonson caught a Giants rookie record 48 passes that year for 795 yards and seven touchdowns. Manuel caught 33 passes for 619 yards and four touchdowns that year, too.

By the way, the overall record for receptions by a Giants rookie is 74, set by tight end Jeremy Shockey in 2002. The franchise record for touchdown catches by a rookie is 10 by end Bill Swiacki in 1948.

Nicks has caught a touchdown in four straight games. A Giants rookie has had a touchdown streak like that since Bob Gaiters scored in five straight in 1961, and a Giants rookie hasn’t had a touchdown catch in four straight games since Swiacki in ’48.
