Crennel Wants The Job?

In November I wrote this post half kidding half serious.  Now comes news from Mike Garafolo that Romeo Crennel is interested in the Giants Defensive Coordinator position.

Crennel’s agent told Garafolo his client would be interested in the Giants’ gig. Again, so are a bunch of other people. But Crennel does have quite a bunch of skins on his wall, as Jerry Reese and others like to say, after Super Bowl-winning stints as an assistant with the Giants and Patriots. ESPN reported recently the Chiefs were planning to hire Crennel, who was the Browns’ head coach from 2005-08, though the report didn’t indicate for which coaching position. Tuesday, reported the Chiefs retained their entire defensive staff, including defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast.

Garafolo also said that the Giants are keeping this quiet, and he expects it to remain that way throughout this process.

  1. Michael S says:

Most of the coaches the giants are targeting run a 3-4 defense which is great in mind. Sure, everyone will say that we won the SB with a 4-3 but times change. Offenses know how to better protect the 4-3 since it’s been there longer. The 3-4 or hybrid (which is both) defense might be a great idea. I’m ALL for it.
What I would do if we switch to a 3-4…. Enjoy
    -draft Terrence Cody for NT
-move cofield and Alford to strongside end (5 technique)
-move tuck weakside end but in a 4-3 end position (7 technique)
-move osi and kiwi to strongside rush linebackers (nice rotation)
-move sintim to weakside linebacker (better coverage skills)
-Trade, draft or pickup in FA a middle LB to play next to Boley
-Webster, Thomas , Ross, and Johnson are corners
-Trade, draft or pickup in FA a great coverage safety to play next to KP21
