My Pick For Defensive Coordinator

Let’s face it: The defensive coordinator search might take awhile. We hear names every day, but nothing seems like it’s close. And that’s okay. The Giants don’t have a game this week (sadly). That said, it would be nice to know who is running the defense next year. And, after much thought, I know who I want to be the next defensive coordinator of the New York Giants: Pepper Johnson

The former Giants linebacker is currently the Patriots defensive line coach. Here’s what Ralph Vacchiano had to say about him:

He is also a brilliant defensive mind, according to those who know him, and his presence  and winning background would certainly get the attention of the Giants’ deflated defensive players.

The last part of that sentence got my attention. He would get the attention of the Giants’ defensive players. He brings a winning mindset. He won with the Giants. He won with the Pats. He’s got 5 rings. But more importantly, for a team needing a big kick in the ass, Pepper can bring it. He’s passionate, he’s fiery. And the players will respect him.

Sure, he doesn’t have coordinator experience. But, if he’s as smart as Vacchiano says, he won’t need that. I’m not the only one excited about him. Andrew is. Is Johnson a shoo-in? No. But, he should be at the top of the list.

I know Spags was a position coach when we hired him but had he ever been a coordinator before?

I think Pepper is the perfect candidate for so many reasons. He seems to contrast all that we hated about Sheridan.

its about time pepper johnson came back into the realm of the NY Giants.

he’s my # pick as well, lets sign the man asap and get started evaluating how to better use our DE’s.

I dont want the Giants to rush anything. I want the best candidate for the job. That being said, I hope the Giants act soon or else all the best guys will be gone.

Pepper Johnson is a good choice, but is it the best one.
