Giants Cowboys Halftime Thoughts

After a disastrous start for the Giants, with mistakes aplenty, the Giants are somehow in the lead, winning 24-20. Football can be a weird sport.

First drive, interception by Eli. Led to a touchdown and a 7-0 lead for the Cowboys. Second drive, interception. Led to a field goal. 88 yard punt return for a touchdown by Dez Bryant.

Somehow, the Giants have recovered, through a great offense, and a stifling defense. An injury to Tony Romo (fractured left clavicle, will not return)didn’t hurt.

The offense has been great, other than the 2 picks and fumble by Jacobs. Moving the ball, both on the ground and in the air. Hakeem Nicks, as always, has been great. Smith, Bradshaw, Jacobs, they’ve all been terrific.

Defense has been great, as per usual. The Cowboys haven’t moved the ball that much. The 20 points is more a result of tremendous field position than anything else. As the half as gone on, pressure has improved, and they knocked Tony Romo out with a fractured left clavicle. With Kitna in, the pass rush was dangerous

Giants should not be winning. 3 turnovers. A punt return for a touchdown. And yet, here they are. I really can’t explain this. Defense has been great. Offense has been great. Without Romo, Cowboys can’t really move. But, 3 turnovers, two on the first two possessions. And the Giants are winning? Football is a weird sport. But, it sometimes works out this way. If the Giants limit mistakes and turnovers in the 2nd half, they will be fine.

I’m surprised you haven’t mentioned how bad the special teams have been. Aside from the obvious Bryant TD return where he ran 80+ yards virtually unscathed, Reynaud has maybe 10 yards in return…. Our special teams are embarrassing!

Those turnover need to quit. Our defense is truly stellar with the secondary making huge strides and the defensive line playing unrelentingly. But the turn overs on defense just have no excuse!
