Nicks vs Jackson

Yesterday, it was Eli vs Romo. Today, it’s Hakeem Nicks against DeSean Jackson in this battle for NFC East supremacy. The two receivers are talented, young and explosive. But, which one is better?

Nicks:27 games, 126 receptions, 1,842 yards, 68.2 yards per game, 14.6 yards per reception, 17 touchdowns, 87 first downs, 3.2 first downs a game.

Jackson: 45 games, 171 receptions, 3,124 yards, 69.4 yards per game, 18.2 yards per reception, 17 touchdowns, 116 first downs, 2.5 first downs a game.

Obviously, Jackson has more games. That’s why there’s a discrepancy in some of the overall stats.  Still, it’s pretty even. Bout the same number of yards per game. Same amount of touchdowns. Jackson has more yards per reception, Nicks has more first downs a game.

Of course,  Jackson is a prolific punt returner, with a gaudy 11.2 average and 4 touchdowns. Nicks doesn’t do that. Jackson also has 3 rushing touchdowns in his career.

Nicks is a touchdown machine, with the same amount of receiving touchdowns in about half the time. Jackson does score many touchdowns, but he does so in different ways.

Jackson does have more big plays. Every .45 of a catch goes for more than 20 or 40 yards. Nicks has .30 of his catches that do that.

Nicks has one less year, and has been injured. I think the nod of the better receiver right now goes to Jackson. He impacts the game in so many ways, either punt returns, rushing and receiving. We saw him do it against the Giants.

Nicks does have a huge impact on games, gets more first downs per game and is a touchdown machine. That’s why I think, if he stays healthy, in two years, Nicks is the better receiver. Hell, Nicks may be the best receiver in the league in two or so years. He doesn’t have the all around game that Jackson does, but he’s a better receiver. He needs to stay healthy, and that’s why I have him just under Jackson right now. However, I do think that’s going to change and it could be very soon.

In my opinion Nicks is the better receiver because he’s stronger so therefore can get off the jam at the line of scrimmage and run block better. I also feel he has a vastly greater number of routes he can run. I believe Jackson is limited by his size to only a few routes. Jackson doesn’t seem to be a good goal line receiver–he’s short an tiny, where as Nicks is a great one–he’s much taller and stockier.

with a gun pointed to my head I would choose Nicks but you cannot go wrong either way.

Nicks is the better over all receiver. He is not even close to his ceiling and Jackson is toped out. Oh and again he is never in the media saying anything stupid unlike Jackson. Nicks is a ninja there is no receiver in the NFC east i would rather have if not the whole nfc.

    Nicks hands down.

If i was a Gm and looked at these two as just Wide receivers i would pick Nicks.

-I know good defense helps win games but scoring touchdowns makes it a lot easier and thats what Nicks does, he scores touchdowns.

-Jackson gets the big plays obviously but hes also a lot faster than most DB’s, a fast, quick DB can cover Jackson and shut him down.

-Nicks on the other hand is great in traffic and can use his strength to create separation. Also can be used in a bigger variety of routes.

-And even though he isn’t as explosive as Jackson, Nicks has shown a knack for getting yards after the catch.

Nicks is the better receiver. This will be Nicks 3rd season, which is supposed to be the break out year for most players, and he has already shown us this much, this could be a BIG year for Nicks.

We will see how Jackson does with the Prince covering him from now on!

  5. Shane says:

One key thing you missed was the fact that Nicks can lay a block while Jackson is a feather in the wind.

  6. Jason C. says:

If we’re talking about who’s the better kick returner there’s no question. If we’re talking about who’s flashier, also a given for DeSean. If we’re talking about who’s the better receiver, IMO, it’s also a no brainer, and it’s Hakeem Nicks.

  7. Jared says:

Nicks! Hands down is the better receiver.
He’s stronger, he’s a better blocker and he’s a good teammate. D-bag Jackson has already been quoted smacktalking his own teammates. What do you think he is going to do when it is time for a new contract? This idiot is single handedly going to bring down the Eagles organization and I personnaly can’t wait for it!!
