Giants Sign Bennett

The Giants have signed TE Martellus Bennett to a 1 year, $2.5 million deal. The 6-6, 270 pound tight end was a backup in Dallas, but possess a skill set to be a standout player. A good blocker and athletic enough to get down the seam, Bennett could thrive with regular playing time and Eli Manning throwing to him.

A great pick up, at good value at that.

You’re right about him, he isn’t the TE (Gronk 2.0) the Cowboys envisioned, but we don’t need that.
He’s an excellent blocker (better than any TE we have or had in the past few years) and still a passing threat.

I thought he would come at a bigger price and I’m pleased with this signing.

He was so excited to even be called by Reese, he knows what a great opportunity this is for him so he took it. Now if he performs he can resign for more money or move on for bigger bucks. A win-win situation for everybody.

    I’d still draft Fleener.

Plus there are going to be some interesting prospects in the late part of the draft and UDFA.

    Let’s go

He’s not only a blocker guys! He could catch also man…

I’m excited that Reese is starting the whole process of putting together a great team to contend for another championship. I can’t wait to see what he’ll do next until I think about the brutal schedule next season….

I can only hope that some of those teams that were good last season take a nose dive.

Pittsburgh looks to be almost rebuilding, they’ll still be strong, but beatable. Cincinnati hasn’t put together 2 consecutive good years since Boomer manned the QB position. New Orleans could be in shambles, if only we can play them early in the season. The problem is Carolina, Tampa and possibly Washington are all set to improve next year, so even the lighter games on our schedule are no walk in the park.

Most of the Cowboys fans and talk show hosts here in Dallas could not WAIT to get rid of Bennett. He has all the physical talents you would want, but may not have the mental makeup needed. There have always been questions about his work ethic. If someone would blow him up on the practice field, Bennett would laugh about it.

The general consensus is that he just didn’t fit into the Cowboy offense. Reese obviously sees the talent and feels we are the team for Bennett. Lets hope it works out.

    • Big Daddy says:

We are blessed with some very good position coaches and a proven staff. Maybe what he was laughing at was Jerry Jones who knows. Maybe he’s just immature and knows it, he is looking for a place were he can get real structure to reach his personal goals.

Or he could end up leaving and crying all the way home to mommy.

That’s why I say still draft Fleener.

like this signing very much and I still hope we can get Boss on the cheap too? Looks like he is checking out KC at the moment. Id also really like Tolbert too if possible to compliment Bradshaw.

    • ArthuroMolenda says:

Boss is one concussion away from retirement, no thanks.

Tolbert would be awesome but I believe he’ll come with a hefty price tag. Speed, catching ability, power, health, youth … the man has everything we need.

Split the carries 300/100 Tolbert’s way and you got yourself something.

Yet it would mean having another $4M/y RB backup after we just cut Jacobs.
