Hakeem Nicks Dealing With Hernia – Status Unknown for Redskins Game

We’ve been hearing rumblings of this since the middle of last week when we first broke the story about Nicks possibly missing substantial playing time — but conflicting reports made it rough to nail down exactly what the truth was with Hakeem Nicks. Not the cat seems to be peaking out of the bag… Nicks appears to be dealing with a sports hernia.

When Nicks said his agent recommended he get checked out, he referenced “the situation that I’m in,” which was taken to mean his contract situation and his impending free agency. Obviously, playing with a hernia and risking more serious injury would damage his standing on the free-agent market, and he and his agent have a vested interest in making sure Nicks hits the market as healthy as possible.

No matter what Nicks does here – it’s a lose lose. He sits, his Giants stock falls and the team loses out… And is viewed by fans as a selfish holdout type of guy. he plays, he risks injury and criticism that he’s not 100% from fans. Obviously – Nicks hasn’t been 100% since 2011. And for that unbelievable run he helped take us on we owe him a bit more than the snark he’s getting from media and fans alike. Nicks should take his time and get healthy if that’s what he needs to play at a high level. We learned this last year the yard way – an unhealthy Hakeem Nicks that plays hurts everybody and helps nobody.
