“Go ahead and mock my draft!” The Giants move up and draft Jadeveon Clowney!

My opinion; a player like Jadeveon Clowney, only comes along once every ten years or so at least that is what the NFL draft pundits say. So by the time the next player like Jadeveon comes along the Giants might have already won a couple more Super Bowls if they take my advice and give serious consideration to moving up in this years draft and trading with the Texans or the Rams if he is available.

As I wrote earlier: I think the hiring of Ben McAdoo is going to pay big dividends right away for the Giants. All the teams that made coaching changes last season had better seasons this year and I believe the Giants under McAdoo, will as well, because he will get what he wants and needs to rebuild the Giants offence. New O-line – TE’s – Running Backs, and he has the backing of John Mara, who has a nice stash of cap money to spend. Enough said – Go Giants!

So our offence is going to be just fine in 2014, so what about the so-so defense?

Well, I have to admit that I only saw South Carolinas, Jadeveon Crowney play one game this year and although people have been down on him for taking some plays off and a couple games as well his coach has suggested that JC could have played pro football ball right out of high school!

So what makes this guy so special? Well, he stops the run dead in its tracks – better then any defensive player in college and that goes a long way to building a great defense. There are times when he gets to the ball carrier before the ball does, and on one sweep I saw he closed on the running back from behind before he could turn the corner and he had to take on two O-linemen to do it! And this is a guy is 6’ 6” and 280 but moves like a cat.

Now, put young Mr. Clowney along side, Linval Joseph. JJP, Johathan Hankins and Damontre Moore and you have a Giant defensive team playing downhill once again against the run instead of looking for another sack! The great NFL defenses today – Seattle – the 49ers’ – the Panthers’ all stop the run first and pressure the quarterback more then sacking them. When you pressure a quarterback all eleven players are involved and not just those hoping for another sack to pad their numbers. The Giants would have a new look defense to go along with their new look offense even before OTA’s.

I would give the Giants #12 and # 3 this year along with Ryan Nessib. The Texans and the Rams will both be looking for a quarterback prospect that can compete for their teams starting job and Nessib is well worth it. In 1915, I would give up the # 1 pick on the way to a conference championship.

I know the argument will be, ‘we need all the draft picks we can get!” Who says? Clowney at # 1! At # 2, I would draft a center like Travis Swanson from Arkansas or David Yankey from Stanford if the Giants haven’t already signed one in free agency! At #4 – I’d take Carlos Hyde, the Ohio State running back- #5- Bradley Roby-Cornerback from Ohio State -#6 Chris Borland, OLB-Wisconsin, ‘he’s small but that’s all.’

The NFL draft has always been more about fantasy then reality, but getting a player like Jadeveon Clowney would be a real steal and go a long way to getting to the playoffs in 2014 and once again the Giants are back to their winning ways and relevant once again!

Book it Dano!

Clowney is a great talent no question. I do believe he takes himself out of the play sometimes because of his speed and quickness running around blocks as opposed to holding his ground. His height can sometimes allow for the offensive blocker to get some leverage on him. He would probably need quite a bit of work on learning the discipline of playing his position as opposed to relying exclusively on athletic ability. There is no question though that he will make an impact in the NFL and should be a top 1, 2, or no worse than 3 pick. However, I don’t believe the Giants should move up to get him; too costly a move and there are too many holes on this team now.

In my opinion the Giants defense will hold the key to the 2014 season. If they play dominating football the Giants have a chance. If they play so-so football the Giants have no chance for the playoffs or any desired success. The Offense will take time to develop, the Defense will have to keep them in games and probably have to win a game or two to keep the GMen relevant during the early or first half of the season.

Based on your post, you must believe Clowney is the guy who can turn the Giants into a dominating defense once again, if JR and Mara agree then they should move up and get him. I believe additional moves are needed on Defense to return to glory.

I agree in some ways with what you are saying…I remember sitting back and watching the draft the year Clay Matthews was drafted everyone had him as a terrific player and except for his injuries the last two seasons he has been as dominating a player as you would like…if there is a player out there that can change your team why not move up and draft him?

Over course the line will be that the Giants need all their picks but this is a really good draft and why not take chances?

The Giants really have a soft D – and I think it comes with Perry Fewell and there desire to sack theQB on every play just leaves the rest of your D vonurable! but I can’t prove that I just long for a great defense again…I think we may be surprised at the Giants O this year.

Want to dream…go to – you tube – and look at a linebacker from BYU -VAN NOY – fun stuff he will be there for the Giants…I really don’t like Mosley look’s slow one other kid the Tight End from North Carolina would be a terrific choice…can’t really tell anything until free agency works it self out…regards, Go Giants.

  3. I agree moving up to get Clowney is exactly what the Giants must do to get to the top. In fact if Clowney is what everyone thinks he is the Giants will be great with a healthy JPP for next 10 years by moving up in top five to select Clowney. Defensive End is the second most expensive player to add free agency and arguably the second most important player on the field. A great D-End will shout down that side of field. You can’t go out and buy a top D-End without over paying them. They usually never hit the market either. Peppers and Mario Williams are examples. They we’re both 1 st picks overall. I don’t believe the Giants have to move to the top two spots because there probably going to be 3 QB’s drafted in top five, and luckily the Rams don’t need a D-End with having two-thirds really good buck ends in Chris Long and Robert Quinn. Moving to the five stop would be cheaper and easier to swap the 12 and probably a third round pick this year. We could look at what it cost Miami Dolphins last year to move up to number 2 from 11 last year, and what it cost Atlanta Falcon to move up to 5 to select WR Jones. If it takes a 2015 2nd round pick along with a 4th or 3rd this year, I think it would be worth it. I know offensive line is a great need, but is position that must be answered in free agency. As we witnessed this year with Pugh and other top tackles drafted this year, it takes time to grow and we can’t let go through those grow pains again. We do have the money to spend on two new starter for the offensive line. Trade up for Clowney would the power move the Giants need to that Seattle category rank Defenses.
